SHS PTSA Teacher Grants

Purpose

To provide funding to enrich and enhance the basic curriculum and students’ educational experiences and support teachers and staff in their creative and innovative thinking. Goals include enhancing students’ and educators’ classroom experiences, bolstering educators’ professional development, and providing a critical link between the PTA and school staff.

In line with the PTSA’s commitment to SHS students’ educational success, health and well-being, the PTSA Teacher Grants will be awarded to projects or activities that enhance student learning, improve the learning environment, and/or support an existing academic program.

Grants may fund special classroom supplies or equipment, field trips, instructional tools/services, supplemental reading materials or materials that provide visual/performing arts experiences. In addition, grants for guest speakers will be considered.

Guidelines
  • All grant recipients must be current members of the Somerville High School PTSA. You can join by going to our website and clicking the “join now” button on top. Teachers can join for free.

  • Grant requests limited to $750 (exceptions based on grant committee & PTSA board approval). Your expenses may be more than $750, however the grant will only cover up to $750 of those expenses.

  • Once funds are depleted, no further grant requests will be considered

  • We are all stewards of our PTSA dollars. Please make sure you have researched the best price for your request. Submit documentation of costs and be as specific as possible.

Restrictions
  • Grants cannot be used for pizza parties, refreshments, or basic school supplies.

  • Funds requested must be used during the current school year.

  • Grants cannot be used to pay wages.

Criteria and Standards
Project ideas recommended for funding meet the following criteria:
  • Enrich the students’ overall educational experience.

  • Activities are creative and/or innovative

  • Impact a substantial number of students.

  • Enhance the curriculum by providing additional relevant educational experiences and/or further improve the quality of the learning environment for students.

  • Are not easily donated by classroom parents (such as general office supplies).

  • Could not or would not be provided by Somerville High School.

Process
  1. Submit the Grant Application form by October 20, 2025.

  2. Once we have received your application you will be notified if additional information is required.

  3. Applications will be reviewed by PTSA Board and/or PTSA application review committee. If there are any questions, the teacher will be contacted.

  4. Communications regarding the application and PTSA Board’s will be sent via email.

  5. Decisions will be made by November 15, 2025.

  6. Grants will be distributed in December.
