Student Improvement Council Elections

Candidate Statements

Tona Delmonico
My name is Tona Delmonico, and I am the parent of an alumnus of SHS and a current 11th grader. I am interested in serving a final term as a parent representative on the SIC because I believe that all young people deserve an academic experience in which they are seen for their intelligence, challenged to be caring human beings, trusted to make decisions, and respectfully held accountable for those decisions. I know that not all parents and family voices are represented on the council and I commit to raising questions, sharing information, and offering input that ensures all parent and family experiences are considered.

Adeleine Mannion

My name is Adeleine Mannion, and my child is a senior at Somerville High School. As this is our family’s final year here, I am eager to give back to the community that has given us so much. Over the years, I have built strong connections with families, staff, and students across Somerville. I hope to serve on the School Improvement Council to give back in a meaningful way by strengthening communication, collaboration, and shared trust between families and the school community.

I have served in Boston Public Schools for twenty-seven years, teaching in inclusion programs and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms, and later serving as an interventionist, ESL and literacy specialist, instructional coach, principal fellow, and now as a school principal.

My professional and personal experiences have shaped my lifelong commitment to equity, inclusion, and joyful learning. As a Haitian immigrant, multilingual learner, and mother of three very different children with diverse needs, including one with special needs, I understand the importance of ensuring that all families—especially multilingual learners, immigrant families, students with disabilities, and our Black and Brown students—are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

I also bring a strong understanding of data, school improvement planning, and instructional priorities, as well as experience supporting teacher collaboration, student achievement, and family engagement. Beyond my work in education, my family owns a small business here in Somerville that has long supported local initiatives and fundraising events, including those featuring Somerville High School student musicians and teams. Through that work, I have seen the incredible spirit of our community in action.

As a member of the School Improvement Council, I hope to enhance communication and collaboration among families, educators, and students; support staff appreciation initiatives; celebrate our school’s successes; and continue to foster a school community rooted in joy, learning, and inclusion.

It would be an honor to serve on the School Improvement Council as a parent representative. I want to uplift the voices of families and help ensure that Somerville High School remains a place where every student, staff member, parent or guardian, and community partner feels valued, supported, and inspired to thrive. I would be grateful for your vote and your trust in allowing me to serve. I also want to thank the Council for their continued dedication and for the opportunity to serve our school community.
